Is clár féinfhorbartha é Gradam an Uachtaráin do dhaoine óga 14-25 bliana d’aois.

Is í an aidhm atá leis an ngradam, ná clár forbartha óige dearfach a sholáthar, clár a spreagann agus a thugann luach saothair do dhaoine óga chun a gcuid paisin a aimsiú agus chun tabhairt faoi dhúshláin chun go rachaidh siad I bhfeidhm go dearfach orthu féin agus ar an domhan mórthimpeall orthu. I mbliana, ghlac daltaí ó Bhliain 4 páirt sa chlár Gaisce. D’éirigh leo an Brat Ómra, ó Pieta House, a bhaint amach tar éis a n-iarrachtaí chun mheabhairshláinte dhearfach a chur chun cinn i bpobal na scoile. Ina theannta sin, ghlac siad páirt i ranganna bodhrán. D’oibrigh siad ar a scileanna pearsanta féin taobh amuigh den scoil freisin, ag tabhairt faoi ghníomhaíochtaí éagsúla cosúil le damhsa, peil agus cispheil. Mar chuid den dúshlán, bhí orthu turas eachtraíochta a dhéanamh agus bhain siad taitneamh as trí lá iontach, ar Oileán Acla, mí na Bealtaine seo caite agus iad ag siúl, ag surfáil agus ag rothaíocht.

The President’s Award is a self-development program for young people aged 14-25.

It is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, to all young people to dream big and reach their full potential. The aim of the program is to provide positive youth development, that encourages and rewards young people to discover their passions and challenge themselves. This in turn has a positive effect on the young people and the world around them. Participants earn a Gaisce award by completing particular challenges such as developing personal skills, physical recreation, community involvement, and participating in an adventure tour.

This year, Transition Year students took part in the Gaisce award. They successfully achieved the Amber Flag from Pieta House, after striving to promote positive mental health in the school community. In addition, they participated in bodhran classes. They also worked on their own personal skills outside of school, taking part in various activities such as dance, football and basketball. As part of the challenge, they had to go on an adventure trip and they enjoyed three fantastic days, on Achill Island, at the end of May, walking, surfing and cycling.
